Offering one of the widest selections of originally-designed artisan cupcakes in South Texas, Buttercreams Cupcakery in Harlingen is a treat I can’t pass up when I’m in the Rio Grande Valley. Its not often that you find a group of people as passionate about what they do as my friends at Buttercreams, and it shows in every made-from-scratch hand-iced cupcake they craft. Being one of my very first photography clients ever, it was great being able to shoot for them once again as they are expanding their business and opening a second location.
Last weekend, I did my second round of food photography for Buttercreams. We added new flavors to their website and a handful of new shots using natural lighting and settings within the shop. For this type of photography, I use a light dome surrounded by several strobes to provide soft, global light while adding highlights with direct, hard lighting from behind and slightly to the side of each cupcake. Painting certain ingredients with oil also helps bring out highlights and further enhances the fresh look of the icing and decorations.
